CommerceIQ is folding Chewy Ads into its retail media optimization layer. From October 1, 2026, pet brands using CommerceIQ’s Retail Media Management can manage Chewy campaigns through the same Ally system they already use for Amazon, Walmart, Instacart and DoorDash.
The vendor says its neural network weighs more than 50 signals across five families: sales performance, competitive dynamics, content quality, product availability and advertising metrics. The goal is to shift budgets toward incremental sales and share of search, not just return on ad spend.
What changed
This is a coverage expansion, not a new product. Chewy Ads becomes another network inside a consolidation layer. CommerceIQ says its software serves more than 2,200 brands generating over $40 billion in sales.
But the release is thin on proof. There is no statement from Chewy, no detail on whether campaigns can be built inside CommerceIQ or only optimized and reported, no pricing, no country scope and no listed customers. CommerceIQ has not published Chewy campaign results.
Why shelf-aware bidding matters
The argument deserves attention. A campaign can look inefficient because a product is out of stock, content is weak or a competitor is gaining share of search. If the algorithm reads falling ROAS in isolation, it may cut bids when the real problem is supply, not media. Connecting bids to availability and rank could avoid wasted spend and restarting from a weaker position.
CommerceIQ quotes CEO Rahul Shah: “Pet brands are competing in an increasingly dynamic ecommerce environment where winning discoverability requires more than optimizing media in isolation.”
The incrementality question
Chewy’s advertising base is unusually subscription-heavy. At an event on September 3, Chewy’s Frank Mulcahy said 84% of sales are automatic. That cuts both ways. Replenishment-heavy audiences are attractive, but many purchases following an ad would have happened anyway.
This is why “incremental sales” is the phrase to pressure-test. CommerceIQ has not said whether Ally measures incrementality against a control group or models it from observational data. The IAB’s 2025 framework separated incrementality from attributed ROAS, and separate research from Incremental estimated siloed attribution misses 36% to 53% of true campaign impact.
What to do before switching it on
- Ask for control-group methodology on incremental sales.
- Clarify what the system can change without human approval.
- Confirm whether placements run on Chewy’s site, off-site or both.
- Request a small test window instead of a full rollout.
The next pressure test is close. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days runs October 6-7. CommerceIQ reported pet products ran promotions 126% deeper than baseline during Prime Day 2026, more than any other category. That makes Chewy Ads optimization timely, but the absence of Chewy results means buyers should treat the integration as a pilot, not a proven lever.
