Reddit Ad Revenue Jumps 54% to $847M as Daily Users Stall

Reddit's Q3 ad revenue hit $847M, up 54%, but search referral declines could push daily active uniques down double digits in Q4.

Reddit Ad Revenue Jumps 54% to $847M as Daily Users Stall

Reddit’s third quarter was a tale of two metrics: advertising income hit a record, while the audience that comes from search started to shrink. The result is a strategic turn that matters for anyone planning paid social budgets.

The headline numbers

Ad revenue reached $847 million between July and September 2026, up 54% from a year earlier. Total revenue rose 53% to $895 million, clearing the top of Reddit’s guidance by $25 million. Net income came in at $283.3 million and adjusted EBITDA at $402.3 million.

Growth, however, is bending. Year-on-year ad revenue growth has stepped down from 75% in Q4 2025 and 74% in Q1 2026 to 64% in Q2 and now 54%.

  • Daily active uniques: 130.3 million, flat quarter over quarter
  • Global ARPU: $6.87, up 36%
  • US ARPU: $13.82, up 53%
  • US daily active uniques: down 2% year over year
  • Search referrals: down meaningfully in Q3, with October down more than 1 million per week

The search warning inside the record

The shareholder letter warned that search referral traffic fell meaningfully during the quarter and the decline has continued into October. If that pace holds, total daily active uniques could fall by a low-double-digit percentage in Q4 from the current 130.3 million base — back to roughly mid-2025 levels.

Reddit did not name a search engine or point to one cause. But the shift tracks with earlier visibility losses in Google’s 2026 core and spam updates, and with the broader move toward AI-powered search results. CEO Steve Huffman’s letter framed it plainly: AI search solves a different problem than Reddit’s community.

Why Reddit is not panicking

The audience split explains the apparent contradiction. Logged-out visitors made up about 59% of daily active uniques, yet Reddit says logged-in and app users account for more than 80% of monetization. The platform is getting most of its money from the smaller, higher-intent audience.

That is why Reddit is moving to a primarily logged-in experience, with full tests in select markets outside the United States in Q4. It also spent more to buy reach: sales and marketing costs rose 62.7% to $209.4 million. Early retention data suggests app users acquired through marketing behave like organic app users.

What marketers should do now

For performance teams, the quarter signals a shift from reach to revenue quality. US revenue grew 50% even as US daily users shrank, powered by higher ARPU. Advertisers should treat Reddit less as a broad logged-out display buy and more as a first-party, logged-in targeting channel.

The platform is expanding the formats to support that. Reddit Max campaigns hit general availability with lead-gen objectives, video ad revenue more than doubled, and new B2B in-market audiences are being tested. Early video testers saw a 51% higher 15-second view-through rate and a 71% higher completion rate.

The risk to watch is Q4: if search referrals keep falling, top-of-funnel reach could tighten further. Now is the time to test Max, CRM-connected lead routing, and longer video optimization before inventory strategies shift again.
