Hallmark Media is betting that outcomes, not reach, will sell its streaming inventory. On October 1, 2026, the company behind Hallmark Channel said it would work with iSpot to independently measure ads across its non-linear TV environments and connect exposure to web traffic, app installs, store visits and purchases.
What the deal actually covers
The partnership uses iSpot’s Unified Measurement and Outcomes at Scale products. Hallmark gets three capabilities: incremental reach beyond linear TV, a deduplicated view of audiences across linear, streaming and FAST, and closed-loop attribution to real-world actions such as visits, installs and purchases.
One item is missing. Fuse Media’s May 2026 iSpot deal listed four capabilities, including in-flight optimization. Hallmark’s release names only three. As written, this is about proving results after a campaign rather than steering budgets while it runs.
Why Hallmark needs this
Hallmark is a specialist programmer, not a scale player. In Nielsen’s May 2026 Media Distributor Gauge, it held 0.8% of US television viewing. With less than one point of total viewing, you cannot win on reach. You win by proving the audience you do have is loyal, habitual and likely to act.
Casey Gould, Hallmark Media’s SVP of ad sales and advanced advertising, said Hallmark has “one of entertainment’s most unrivaled fandoms” and the iSpot work will “prove out this unique value” to brands. iSpot EVP Stuart Schwartzapfel framed the deal as showcasing the “true and total value” of Hallmark’s repeat viewers.
The buyer’s checklist
Seller-commissioned measurement is a pitch, not proof. The release does not disclose which data partners supply purchase and foot traffic signals, how unique viewers are matched across linear and streaming, or whether any lift claim has a control group.
- How was overlap between linear and streaming viewing established? Misclassified overlap inflates incremental reach.
- Which datasets closed the loop from ad exposure to purchase or store visit?
- Is there a control group or holdout behind the lift?
Attribution establishes that an exposed household later acted; it does not by itself prove the ad caused it.
Timing raises a practical question
The deal was announced eight days after the US Joint Industry Committee recertified iSpot, and fifteen days before Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas begins on October 16, 2026. Hallmark’s release mentions the franchise but does not say whether measurement will be live for this year’s holiday campaigns. Buyers should confirm that before relying on seasonal numbers.
