Amazon DSP adds no-code brand penetration maps in 9 markets

Amazon Ads now offers pre-built brand penetration indices in nine countries—no AMC setup, weekly refresh, and ad-group-level activation. Here's why it matters.

Amazon DSP adds no-code brand penetration maps in 9 markets

Amazon Ads just gave self-service DSP advertisers a shortcut that used to take a data team: pre-built brand penetration maps. The October 2, 2026 update adds ready-made indices to Geographic Insights and Activation (GIA) in nine countries, with no Amazon Marketing Cloud setup.

What changed

The indices are generated from Amazon’s first-party retail data and the advertiser’s tracked ASINs. They compare your brand’s penetration against the broader product category, so the map shows where you under- or over-index—not just where you sell. You pick a strategy to reach low-penetration or high-penetration markets and apply it at ad group level. Self-service advertisers and tech providers can access it through DVA+ with advanced settings or the public API. Indices refresh weekly, so campaigns can adapt without manual updates.

The nine-country footprint is smaller than the 34-market global account Amazon rolled out in July, so check your market before planning:

  • North America: US, Canada
  • Europe: Germany, Spain, France, Italy, UK
  • Asia Pacific: Australia, Japan

From AMC analyst work to a dropdown

Before this, geographic optimisation meant writing SQL inside AMC, exporting outputs, and formatting postal codes. That’s analyst work many self-service advertisers don’t have. Amazon claims the new path cuts activation “from days to minutes”—its own wording, not backed by a study, but the removal of friction is real.

What the launch doesn’t say

The notice leaves out geographic granularity, exact index methodology, what the low/high strategies actually do to bids, and how weekly refreshes interact with reporting. A custom AMC index is transparent to the person who built it. A pre-built index is faster but visible only to Amazon. There’s also a rollout wrinkle: DVA+ is in a US closed beta, yet the notice lists six non-US countries—Amazon hasn’t reconciled that.

The bigger shift

This continues a 2026 Amazon pattern: AMC-grade insights packaged into default products. Free AMC paid features, AI defaults in Brand+ and Performance+, and now geo indices. It also gives Amazon’s retail data an edge no other DSP can match, making geo budgets stickier inside Amazon DSP. For brands with offline or D2C sales, remember this map measures Amazon performance, not total market performance.

What to do about it

Start with a low-penetration test in one market. If you’re a skincare brand over-indexing in one metro but under-indexing in another, the low-penetration strategy lets you spend where category demand exists but you’re not capturing it. Watch how weekly refreshes shift budgets. If you run holdout or matched-market tests, treat the map as a directional signal, not a stable control. Blend in your own sell-out data before making large budget calls.
