Google is moving the front door for gambling ad certification. On October 15, 2026, the company posted an update to its advertising policies: eligible advertisers will gradually be able to apply for online gambling certification from inside their Google Ads account, instead of only through the Help Center form.
That is a workflow change, not a policy rewrite. Licences, country restrictions, landing page rules and suspension risks stay exactly where they were. But for casino operators, sportsbooks and the agencies running their accounts, where you apply is part of the cost of doing business.
What is actually changing
The new application route sits under Admin > Policy > Account. Google says the option will appear “gradually” from October 2026, starting with some advertisers, while the existing Help Center form remains available. Existing certifications and pending applications are not affected.
Two details matter. First, the phased rollout has no end date, and Google does not say how it picks the first accounts. Second, the notice lists only online gambling. The page structure hints the list could grow, but that is inference, not announcement.
Why the gate matters more now
Certification is the gate a casino or sportsbook must pass before a single ad can serve. Google treats gambling violations as “egregious”, which can mean immediate suspension without warning. That makes the certification workflow more than admin busywork.
This in-account route lands after a year of tightening rules. Since August 26, 2026, each country requires its own application, and one account cannot hold online gambling and social casino certifications. From March 23, 2026, accounts also need “good policy health” and a cleaner management-account history. A multi-market operator now files several applications, so an interface tied to the account itself could remove real steps.
What to do before October 21
Certified gambling advertisers gain new placement options from October 21, 2026: YouTube Masthead reservations and online lottery ads in Colombia. Here is a quick checklist for teams managing these accounts:
- Have the account administrator look for Policy > Account in Admin.
- Keep per-country licence names and numbers ready, because August’s rules still apply.
- Do not assume the in-account route speeds review; Google has not said it does.
Google’s April 21, 2026 promise of one-click certifications through Ads Advisor has not shown up yet, but this new Policy > Account surface looks like a step toward that. For now, it is a shorter path for the same application, not an agentic shortcut.
