X Analytics Paywall: 4.4M Paid Subscribers Get the Full View

X moved its full analytics dashboard behind Premium. Free post-level mobile data remains. Third-party tools like Perch by Hootsuite close the gap.

4.4M Premium users get the full X dashboard

X has quietly split its native analytics into two tiers. The full dashboard—account-level trends, historical data, engagement rate and side-by-side metric comparisons—now sits behind X Premium or a verified account on desktop. The latest guide puts that Premium base at roughly 4.4 million paid subscribers as of early 2026. Free accounts are not cut off entirely, but their view stops at the individual post.

The paywall shift

Here is what each tier unlocks:

  • Free: Post-level analytics in the X mobile app, including impressions, engagements, detail expands, profile visits and new followers for any single post.
  • X Premium: The complete desktop dashboard with account-level trends, historical data and engagement rate.
  • Third-party tools: Account-level and post-level reporting without Premium, plus cross-platform comparisons and exportable reports.

For marketers running X alongside other channels, that third option changes the calculation. Perch by Hootsuite, for example, can report account-level X data, compare platforms and export reports without a Premium subscription.

Pick metrics by goal, not volume

The biggest trap in analytics is tracking everything. The guide’s advice is simpler: start with the goal—awareness, engagement, traffic, conversions or audience growth—then monitor the handful of metrics that map to it. Engagement rate is a quick gut check on creative resonance. Link clicks and profile visits matter more when you are driving visits or sign-ups. Reach tells you how many unique accounts you touched, while impressions count every screen appearance.

One nuance worth noting: X’s native dashboard leans on impressions and does not surface unique reach for organic posts. That makes impressions a proxy, not a clean audience-size signal. Average impressions fell 5% year-over-year in 2025, so teams need context before reading a dip as creative failure.

What still works without paying

You do not need Premium to see how a single post performed. In the X mobile app, open any post, tap the three dots, then tap View analytics. It is a small free backdoor that marketers can use for quick creative checks. For broader questions—follower growth patterns, reply trends, cross-platform performance—third-party reporting becomes the practical workaround.

Engagement rate math is consistent: total engagements divided by total impressions, multiplied by 100. A post with 50 engagements and 5,000 impressions has a 1% engagement rate. But not every tool uses the same denominator, so pick one method and stick with it for comparable trends.

How to make the paywall less painful

For traffic goals, strengthen calls to action, test hooks, edit link previews and post in high-engagement windows. For replies and mentions, ask a question or invite an opinion—Domino’s does this well with its timeless pineapple-on-pizza debate. For video, tighten the first three seconds and add captions, since completion rate matters more than raw views. Finally, treat X creator revenue as a bonus: payouts depend on ad demand, verified audiences and reply quality, not a fixed rate per million views.
