Buffer vs RecurPost 2026: Pricing, AI, and Workflow Compared

We tested Buffer and RecurPost hands-on. Here's how pricing, AI, inbox, and approvals compare for solo creators and agencies.

Buffer vs RecurPost 2026: Pricing, AI, and Workflow Compared

The 2026 social media management race has a clear fork: tools built for fast, fresh publishing versus tools built for evergreen recycling. That is exactly the split when you compare Buffer and RecurPost.

Buffer optimizes for getting new posts out quickly and keeping teams on the same page. RecurPost optimizes for libraries that loop content automatically and for Instagram conversations that turn comments into DMs.

Pricing and free tier

Buffer’s free plan is genuinely useful: three channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel that refill when slots free up, basic analytics, API and MCP access, and 24/7 email support. Paid plans start at $6 per channel monthly for Essentials and $12 per channel monthly for Team, which includes unlimited users and approval workflows.

RecurPost has no permanent free plan, only a 14-day trial. Starter is $9 monthly for one user and two social accounts, with support limited to a knowledge base. Personal costs $25 monthly for five accounts, and Agency is $79 monthly for three seats and 20 accounts. Extra accounts add $4 each per month, and extra Agency seats add $20 each per month.

The math changes by team size. A solo creator with three channels or fewer gets the best deal from Buffer. For small teams with few channels, RecurPost can look cheaper; as channels and team members scale, Buffer often becomes the more affordable option.

Scheduling and publishing

Buffer assumes most posts are new. You compose, customize per platform, and drop the post into a queue with preset time slots. The Create space works as a shared idea board, and Team plan members can request approval before anything goes live.

RecurPost assumes much of your content is evergreen. You build libraries, add recurring time slots, and posts rotate through automatically. You can give a post an end date so it drops out while others keep looping. The system is powerful but takes more effort to learn than Buffer’s straightforward queue.

RecurPost also goes deeper on Instagram. You can schedule trial reels, attach licensed audio, tag collaborators, automate a DM on a specific post, and boost Instagram or Facebook posts for an extra $5 monthly. Buffer does not support DMs, and its recurring post feature remains in beta with a simpler one-post-at-a-time setup.

Inbox, analytics, and AI

Buffer’s Community inbox spans Facebook Pages, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, X/Twitter, Google Business Profiles, TikTok, YouTube, and Mastodon. It includes saved replies and response-time tracking, but no DMs. RecurPost’s inbox covers Instagram business profiles, Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Company Pages, and Google Business Profiles, and it includes Facebook and Instagram DMs. Its Instagram DM automation is the standout: keyword triggers, follow-first logic, and post-specific rules.

For analytics, RecurPost offers deep client reporting with demographics by age, gender, country, and city, plus white-label PDFs on Agency. Buffer covers more platforms and adds AI-powered takeaways, custom dashboards, and Markdown export for further analysis in Claude or ChatGPT. Watch one RecurPost caveat: X/Twitter analytics require a paid per-post add-on.

AI tells the same story. Buffer’s AI Assistant is unlimited on all plans. RecurPost gives 100 AI credits per month and 10 image-generation credits, with paid top-ups; RecurPost does offer AI-generated images, which Buffer does not match.

How to choose

Use this quick filter for your weekly workflow:

  • Choose Buffer if you want a free plan, wide platform coverage, unlimited team seats, and enforced approval workflows.
  • Choose RecurPost if you run evergreen content libraries or Instagram DM campaigns and need client workspaces with deep custom reports.
  • Be careful with RecurPost if approval control is non-negotiable; it does not enforce pre-publish sign-off the way Buffer permissions do.

The best tool is the one that matches the job you repeat. Test your highest-frequency workflow before you commit.
