Social teams have a quiet inefficiency: they ask Claude to write, then copy the draft into another tool to publish. Hootsuite’s connector for Claude removes that loop. Once linked, Claude can plan, draft, schedule and report from inside the chat.
What the MCP bridge actually does
An MCP connector is a bridge between the AI assistant and your social media stack. Without it, Claude only sees what you paste into a conversation. With it, you can grant permission for Claude to read the content calendar, pull performance data or check inbound conversations.
Setup is the easier path for most teams. You add Hootsuite as a custom connector in Claude Desktop, choose the MCP server URL, sign in through OAuth and authorise the right workspace. No code required.
- Share brand guidelines and a few posts you admire so drafts keep your tone.
- Limit the accounts and data the connection can reach, especially across multiple brands.
- Keep every post in your usual approval flow; Claude follows Hootsuite’s permissions.
Where the human stays in charge
This is not autopilot. Claude won’t wake up and post on its own, and it won’t skip a sign-off your team already uses. That boundary matters because AI drifts toward generic internet voice and can misread a sensitive moment.
“Anything that goes public, involving a person, or representing the brand needs my sign-off first.”
— Melina Giorgalletou, Content and Social Media Manager at Supernormal
Contain the risk before you connect
Social accounts hold more than posts: customer names, order details, unreleased campaigns. Before enabling a connector, confirm what the integration can see and where the data goes. Grant only the permissions Claude actually needs, and run regulated industries through the same compliance review as any other tool.
Pick the workflow that drains you most
Hootsuite exposes four apps to Claude: Perch for planning and publishing, Nest for comments and DMs, Lumen for social listening, and Parliament for employee advocacy. Start with the one that currently causes the most tab-switching; for most social managers, that is Perch.
If your stack does not offer an MCP connector, APIs and automation platforms such as Zapier, Make or n8n can build similar flows, but you will map every step yourself. Most teams never need the developer route.
A simple frame to follow: brief, connect, review. Give Claude context, let it act inside your tool, then make a human decision before anything goes public. That structure turns AI from a text generator into a junior teammate.
