BYRDLI, Visit Mississippi and Travel South USA have launched a creator-led travel activation, MISSISSIPPI FOUND, that turns a photographer’s road trip into a live shopfront, not a one-off content series. Until the end of September, US travel creator and photographer Nicole Zelkowitz will travel through Mississippi, taking in food, music, culture, communities and landscapes. As she moves, the hotels she stays in, the places she discovers and the itinerary she builds become bookable products inside her own BYRDLI Travel Club.
What’s different this time
Creators already shape where travellers go, where they stay and what they do. The missing layer has historically been the infrastructure that lets them take part in the transaction that follows. BYRDLI supplies that layer: creator-owned travel storefronts, global inventory, product-building tools, booking, payments, concierge fulfilment and first-party booking attribution.
Instead of sending an audience to an affiliate link or an OTA, a creator curates and sells their own hotel stays and itineraries with their own images and notes. It is a commerce layer for travel, similar to what Shopify did for retail.
Why it matters for marketers
For destination marketers, the appeal is a cleaner line between storytelling and measurable outcomes. Zelkowitz’s route runs from Tupelo through the Mississippi Delta and Jackson before reaching the Gulf Coast. Her Travel Club will feature curated Top Stays and a multi-day Mississippi itinerary, and those products remain live beyond the campaign window.
That turns a short activation into a long-tail sales asset. Key shifts for performance marketers:
- Owned distribution: the checkout sits next to the content, inside the creator’s storefront.
- First-party attribution: the booking is tied back to the creator, not lost on a third-party platform.
- Residual shelf life: stays and itineraries keep working after the campaign ends.
The creator’s view
Vanessa Richards, BYRDLI’s Co-Founder and CEO, says real infrastructure sits underneath the trip. In her words: “Not another affiliate link” — the creator has the tools to build, book, pay for, fulfil and measure the travel they distribute.
Zelkowitz says she is excited to push her photography and storytelling into unfamiliar territory, and that her community can book her exact Mississippi experience through her Travel Club. Visit Mississippi CMO Katie Coats adds that the model helps turn destination stories into a clearer path from inspiration to planning and booking.
What to test in your own funnel
The activation is part of a broader collaboration between Travel South USA and BYRDLI, connecting creator-led destination marketing with bookable infrastructure across the American South. For brands outside travel, the lesson is similar: if an influencer can own the storefront and the sale, stop measuring reach alone. Productise the journey, keep it live and optimise for conversions.
