Hootsuite’s September 2026 update is its biggest of the year so far: 20 new features and improvements that reach almost every part of the social media workflow. For digital marketers, the release matters less for the volume than for what it signals—AI search, social listening, and approval bottlenecks are now being treated as solvable problems.
AI search becomes a brand metric
More than 50% of consumers now begin product research with an AI assistant instead of a search engine, according to Hootsuite’s update. Yet most teams have little visibility into what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Claude say about their brand.
Lumen’s new LLM Insights aims to close that gap. It scores brand visibility, tracks sentiment and share of voice across AI-generated answers, and shows the prompts and citations that surface a brand—or leave it out.
- See your visibility score and average position across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude
- Find the prompts and citations that mention your brand, and the ones that skip it
- Benchmark against competitors and act on recommendations inside existing dashboards
For growth teams, this is the missing link between AI adoption and measurement. If AI assistants are the new starting point for product research, your share of voice in those answers is a channel metric, not a novelty.
Workflow upgrades that remove friction
Several updates are aimed at operational speed. Perch’s Parallel Approvals lets every approval tier review content at the same time instead of waiting in sequence. Bulk tagging can apply tags to up to 50 posts at once. Grouped Tagging turns unwieldy tag lists into governed groups, with mandatory tags and team-level visibility.
Unified Filters puts tag, auto-tag, and campaign filters under “Across social networks” so reports stay consistent. My Reports opens filtered by product area, Ask My Admin routes permission requests to the right Admin automatically, and a new Embedded Apps panel gives Asana, Wrike, Monday.com, Airtable, Notion, and Jira a shared home.
Social listening and analytics catch up
Lumen’s YouTube catalog now covers 15,000 accounts, with 30,000 planned. Threads Public Profile Monitoring lets teams track competitors and influencers, not just owned profiles. Post Performance now includes Threads and LinkedIn profile-level metrics, closing a long-standing measurement gap.
WhatsApp Coexistence stands out for enterprise teams: you can connect Hootsuite and keep your existing WhatsApp Business App connection at the same time, moving between tools without reconnecting. Parliament MCP for Content Admins brings conversational publishing to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, while Instagram DM automation can now be set up directly from Planner.
What this means for your stack
The thread running through the release is consolidation: fewer tabs, fewer manual steps, and more places where AI gives an answer instead of a blank chart. The practical first move is to check your AI visibility before a competitor makes it a board-level metric.
Do three things this week: look at where AI assistants mention your brand, enable parallel approvals if you run multi-tier signoffs, and use bulk tagging to clean your content calendar. Then watch the YouTube catalog and Threads monitoring if social listening is part of your remit.
