Meta Pixel counts more sales; 8.9% of Meta ads flagged as AI

From November 12, Meta counts more conversions by default right before Black Friday. Separately, 8.9% of Meta ad files were flagged as AI-generated.

Advertisers may see a jump in Meta-attributed sales around mid-November even if campaigns, bids and creative stay untouched. From November 12, a new Events Manager setting called “Measure conversions on customer devices” switches on by default for every dataset already sending events.

Meta says the feature recovers purchases that currently drop out of reports. The matching pairs an email address a customer gave the business with temporary device data Meta describes as non-identifying. Only the purchase event and the credited campaign are sent back.

Why the default matters

The rollout lands a little over two weeks before Black Friday on November 27. That is exactly when performance teams are least inclined to accept a jump in reported sales they cannot reconcile.

The eligibility rules are narrower than the default suggests. The feature does nothing for people in the EU or UK, the Pixel must sit directly on the page rather than inside an iframe or an image pixel, and the site must require a login with an email address or mobile number. Attribution windows and models stay as they are.

What to audit before you panic

Yiqi Wu, chief executive of e-commerce tracking firm Aimerce, flagged the change and warned against opting out immediately. His advice is to run a parallel check rather than trust the new count blindly.

  • Don’t opt out by default—compare Meta-attributed purchases with Shopify orders first.
  • Keep server-side tracking on and track the ratio over time.
  • Opt out only if the numbers stop agreeing.
  • Watch which ad sets enter or leave the learning phase.

Meta’s own peak-season guidance says ad sets need about 50 conversions a week to leave the learning phase, and those below that threshold ran 28% more expensive per purchase. Any setting that lifts the conversion count can also lift the share of ad sets that clear the bar.

The counting landscape shifted too

Google Ads added an “All Conversions” submenu under Goals, listing each conversion action with its account-level goal, click-through window and primary or secondary status. Microsoft Advertising introduced a “Target and bid” option for LinkedIn profile targeting in Audience campaigns, letting B2B advertisers restrict delivery to matching professional attributes rather than only adjusting bids.

Apple quietly fixed a Safari 27.2 issue that capped cookies set in top-level page responses at seven days when a hostname is a CNAME pointing to a different registrable domain—a common setup for CDN-hosted sites. The fix covers cookies set in page responses only.

Meanwhile, most AI ads stay undisclosed

Resemble AI’s 2026 Synthetic Advertising Report scanned 37,768 image and video files from Meta’s Ad Library. It flagged 3,379 files, or 8.9%, as AI-generated or manipulated. Only 0.06% mentioned AI anywhere in the ad copy.

Of 3,216 files labelled as fakes, 70% were photorealistic and 46% depicted a person. Bait pages were flagged at 71.3%. New York’s synthetic performer disclosure rule carries fines of $1,000 for a first violation and $5,000 after, while Article 50 of the EU AI Act allows penalties up to €15 million or 3% of global turnover.
