Reddit just moved more of the media planning and budget workflow inside Ads Manager. On October 20, 2026, the platform introduced three tools for advertisers who still build campaigns manually: a campaign planner, a campaign-level optimization score and campaign budget optimization.
What’s new inside Ads Manager
The planner projects reach, impressions and costs before any budget is committed. Marketers can build multiple versions and compare them across budgets, audiences, objectives and placements, then send the selected plan to a draft campaign. Reddit also pulls in Community Intelligence signals: engagement insights show how recently and consistently target audiences have been active, while conversation summaries highlight dominant themes across selected subreddits.
The new optimization score, or OptiScore, rates each campaign from 0 to 100% during creation and editing. It replaces the account-level score Reddit introduced in July 2025 with tailored, per-campaign recommendations. Reddit’s product marketing team says the updates are meant to “deliver even more clarity, ease, and performance for advertisers of all sizes.”
Campaign budget optimization, or CBO, shifts spend between ad groups automatically. Advertisers set budgets at the campaign level, and Reddit moves money toward what it calls the best-performing ad groups. The example in the announcement shows a $200 daily budget with a 20% daily overspend allowance, averaged across the week.
The numbers Reddit wants you to see
- Campaigns scoring 80% or higher saw 19.6% lower blended CPA than lower-scoring campaigns.
- A 5-point OptiScore increase was associated with 4.4% lower blended CPA.
- Traffic advertisers using CBO saw 10% lower CPC.
Those are Reddit’s own numbers, measured on Reddit. The blog post’s footnotes were collapsed when PPC Land reviewed the page, so the sample size, period and methodology could not be checked. The first figure compares two groups of advertisers, not a controlled experiment, and the second uses “associated with,” which signals correlation rather than causation.
Why this matters now
Reddit’s ad revenue hit $762 million in Q2 2026, up 64% year over year, and its advertiser count grew more than 70%. Many of those advertisers arrive without agency support, so the platform is building planning and optimization into its own interface. The timing is also deliberate: Reddit’s sample plan runs October 31 to November 26, right in the holiday window.
This mirrors Meta’s move to campaign-level budgets with Advantage+. Budget optimization is available now for Awareness and consideration and Traffic, while Sales, Lead generation and App promotion remain in beta.
How to use it without buying the hype
Treat OptiScore as a checklist, not proof of performance. A high score means a campaign follows platform recommendations, which is useful but not independent validation. Use the planner to compare versions before committing budget, but record projected reach and CPC, then check them against actual delivery. For CBO, watch how the system defines “best-performing” on objectives without a conversion event.
The marketers who benefit most will be those who use these tools as faster workflows, not as guarantees.
