Google Search profiles officially crossed the U.S. border on October 6. Creators and publishers in India and Canada can now claim a dedicated profile that gathers their articles and social posts into one Google surface, and Google says Brazil is rolling out soon.
Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, announced the expansion on X. He framed it as one of the most requested updates and said eligible sources can now “set up their own dedicated home base on Google,” with Brazil “rolling out soon.”
What a Search profile actually does
Think of a Search profile as a claimable home base rather than a ranking hack. It connects your content across platforms so Google can present a cleaner source identity to people searching for you and, importantly, to people browsing Discover.
Google’s help page still told visitors “Search profiles are currently only available in the United States” at midday on October 6, so the documentation has not caught up to the announcement. Marketers should treat the announcement, not the help page, as the current state. The page also lists the setup requirements: you need a Google Account, you must be at least 18, and at least one linked platform—YouTube, Instagram, X, or TikTok—must have 10,000 followers. Stein’s post did not confirm whether that threshold applies in India and Canada.
Why this matters for growth teams
Creating a profile doesn’t directly improve search rankings. Google is explicit about that. The quieter win is Discover: followers of a profile may see more of that source’s content in Google Discover. For a D2C brand or independent publisher, that is a distribution surface most teams leave to chance. Teams that plan for Discover separately from SEO can capture that demand without waiting for a rankings change.
The international rollout also changes the competitive clock. U.S. creators have had since June to accumulate followers and normalise their presence. In India and Canada, the window opens today. Early movers can secure their branded profile before larger players saturate the format.
The framework: claim, connect, compound
For teams managing multiple brands or creator programs, treat this like a distribution audit. Claim the profile under the Google Account that owns the brand’s content, not an employee’s personal account. Connect the platform where you have the most consistent publishing cadence. Then compound by treating every article or social post as material for the same source identity.
This is less about a single viral moment and more about compounding discoverability. A profile that looks active and authoritative gives Google’s surfaces a consistent signal about who you are and what you publish.
Your move
If you operate in India or Canada, start with this sequence:
- Visit profile.google.com/claim and sign in with the Google Account you want tied to your content.
- Link the platform where your audience is already largest.
- Confirm whether your linked account meets the follower minimum in your market.
- Treat the profile as an owned surface, not a one-time setup.
Brazil is next, but Google has not shared a date. For marketers who act early, the nearest advantage is not a rankings bump—it is becoming a recognised source before the feed gets crowded.
